Gym rats and non-gym goers will all agree, when discussing the smell of a gym, good smells are usually not the topic. But, did you know that there are categories for each pungent odor that fills the gym?
The Felicia: As in, “Bye, Felicia” because that’s exactly what everyone wants to say to this particular gym patron. The Felicia puts in more work getting ready for the gym than the actual effort exerted at the gym. Lay off the body spray, Felicia.
The Chad: The Chad is usually young enough to bathe in Axe Body Spray and old enough to know better. If you have a stuffy nose and want to spot The Chad, you can usually spot Him on the bench press or doing bicep curls.
The “I came to yoga because my girlfriend asked me to” guy: ask any yoga instructor, flatulence happens. Unfortunately, unsuspecting participants lose focus abruptly when it happens. Let’s just hope you’re spared the experience, or that you’re not in a Hot Yoga class. Mula Bandha, brah.
The Protein Shaker: we’ve all done it. Slammed down a protein shake in the gym and stuffed the shaker into the gym bag to be forgotten until your next gym visit. This smell will hit you, and every person within a ten-foot radius across the face without mercy.
The Negligent Gym Bag Packer: this smelly person takes pre-workout as soon as work is over forgetting that the only gym clothes in their bag are from two days prior. Sweaty, musty, sour, and downright gag inducing.
Finally,
The Raunchy Personal Trainer: Every single personal trainer is guilty. With the understanding that their bodies are walking billboards, sticking to an exercise program is imperative. With a busy schedule, trainers have to fit in a workout whenever they can. This often means that the only thing they change to get ready for a quick iron sesh is their shirt. Six hours later, and some dried up, sweat soaked Lululemon pants; they are bound to nasally offend.
These are all real problems in need of dire attention. Please, bring awareness to all of your gym buddies and share this information. Only you can prevent gym stench.
