1. White Sands National Monument

This gypsum dune field is the largest in the world with an easily navigable path through the dunes. 2. New Mexico Museum of Space History

3. The Toy Train Depot
The Toy Train Depot is the first ever railroad museum in New Mexico and the location of America’s Park-Ride Train Museum. The museum is dedicated to preserving, restoring, and sharing the history of the railroad in Alamogordo and throughout the state. Attractions include vintage train models of every scale, fun rides, and a range of children’s toy trains. The learning opportunity, the model trains, and the oral traditions are well worth the trip; but the most exciting experience is the ride on the Alamogordo/Alameda park narrow gauge railway. This is also a great chance to find railroad toys and memorabilia that you won’t find anywhere else.
4. Tularosa Basin Historical Society
The Tularosa Basin Historical Society is another one of Alamogordo’s fascinating historical attractions. With Tularosa Basin artifacts, photos, and historical documents, the Historical Society celebrates and shares the unique and varied history of the community and the state of the New Mexico. This museum tells the stories of Alamogordo and surrounding areas from their ancient beginnings. Some of the most interesting exhibits are those for the local railroad, the White Sands National Monument, Native American history, and La Luz pottery.
5. Heart of the Desert
More pistachios are produced in the Heart of the Desert than anywhere else in New Mexico, and the wine is a favorite attraction as well. What began as a humble family farm has grown into a large ranch and tourist attraction. Still owned and operated by the same family, the ranch is entirely self-contained, from planting all the way to marketing. Enjoy live music on Wednesdays or sign up for an artistic and crafty wine tasting workshop. You can even rent the beautiful Tuscan patio for an event or take one of the ever-popular walking tours of the ranch.
