Alamogordo New Mexico
Alamogordo New Mexico
Located in southern New Mexico is the town of Alamogordo, which was originally a water stop for the railroads. Proud to boast the oldest Zoo west of the Mississippi, this charming small town is full of history.
If you’re looking for a blast of a day, be sure to visit the New Mexico Museum of Space History and explore the Tombaugh IMAX Dome Theater. During the summer the museum hosts space camps for children to learn more about space exploration and rocketry. And don’t forget to look to the skies, you just might see a fighter jet or two flying high at Holloman Air Force Base.
Not ready to blast off? No problem. Spend the day exploring the unique features of the Tularosa Basin. Whether you take a 30 minute drive into the mountains to enjoy the cool weather and a great hike or you prefer to sink your toes in the sand of the White Sands National Monument, you can do it all in this community.
Be sure to check out the many festivals and unique events in this town. Whether you want to join in the games and rides of the Cottonwood Festival over Labor Day Weekend or celebrate the western lifestyle at the Otero County Fair, you’ll enjoy this small-town community pride. Of course, there must be something unique, like the worlds largest pistachio just off highway 54/70. Be sure to stop by the local wineries for a relaxing day while your eyes drink in the sights of a NewMexi.can sunset.
Known as the “Friendliest place on earth”–there are many reasons you’ll want to visit Alamogordo, New Mexico!

Spent a lot of time in Alamogordo…..playing a local night club back in the late ’50s……also, on the way to Cloudcroft and then on to Ruidoso through back roads…..just a neat little town, home to Holloman AFB and not far from White Sands Missile Range and the White Sands themselves……
