NewMexi.co Artist Series
Being an artist is a very rewarding experience in New Mexico. Everything here is inspiring, I’m particularly moved by the sunsets and wildlife. I apply a lot of these inspirations in my illustrations and designs, through color and content.
You walk through the halls of Walmart and Walgreens and we are bombarded by stock images with the words New Mexico emblazed on them. Heck! You even see these cookie cutter made-from-china products at OUR museums (more about that later)?! This doesn’t represent my culture, and I think we are better than that! New Mexicans are real, authentic and our talents surpass these stock Zia symbols and skulls. I’ve had the incredible chance to work with NewMexi.co as a contributor and a curator for their sister site Art.NewMexi.co, which was inspired as a place for NM artists to be showcased. We decided to take that to another level.
NewMexi.co and Reviver Printing presents – Artist Series shirts and prints! With designs by Deret Roberts from one of our favorite galleries, Art Obscura in Las Cruces, Cassandra Dixon – one of the most talented people we know, check out her video! And, myself, Christina Ballew – artist and professional Graphic Designer for over a decade! We love supporting each other, we love being able to show off the talent that resides in our state. The people are what makes New Mexico special.
Who is Reviver? Reviver is a screenprinting company that held an artist series shirt show in 2014 to huge success! I was thrilled to be part of it, and it seemed only natural to introduce Reviver to NewMexi.co. Both businesses value locality, our culture and supporting each other. This artist series is a labor of love and something we are proud to release to New Mexicans.
