Celebrating National Novel Writing Month in Albuquerque
The best events for celebrating National Novel Writing Month in Albuquerque will be in the first half of November. On November 4, you can broaden your horizons by attending an intriguing Shamanic Writing Workshop with Burt Kempner and Michelle Adam. November is also National Native American Heritage Month, and this workshop is a unique opportunity to dig deep into spiritual writing while honoring Native American culture and traditions. The Shamanic Writing Workshop lasts from 2 to 4:45pm at the Tortuga Gallery.

On November 6 and 14, Cherry Hills Library in Albuquerque will be holding Come Write-In events for NaNoWriMo. These events take place in the Children’s Room from 6 to 7pm. You’ll get writing prompts and can rise to the challenge of completing 50,000 words in 30 days as a part of NaNoWriMo’s challenge to write a novel in a month. The event is free and open to all ages. Cherry Hills will also have a children’s event on November 4, called Read to the Dogs. This will improve your child’s confidence in reading, while he or she has fun with the therapy dogs.

November 11, however, is the big event for celebrating novelists in Albuquerque. From 10am to 4pm, the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History will host the 2017 Author Festival. There will be amazing authors from around New Mexico, speaking to attendees, sharing their perspectives, and selling their books. There will be book signings, an author panel discussion, a writing contest, and various presentations. It is free to attend, and there will be over 20 New Mexican authors at the event.

Celebrating National Novel Writing Month in Santa Fe
The New Mexico Capitol Rotunda in Santa Fe has been holding an event called Portable Magic: The Art of the Book since September, which will continue until December 15. There is still plenty of time to experience this event, and it’s a wonderful way for lovers of books and art to celebrate National Novel Writing Month!

Santa Fe is also the best place to spend National Novel Writing Month improving your skills with the artistic use of language. Every novelist needs to know how to write eloquently and to use language creatively and expressively. On November 9, you can do just that at the Stranger’s Collective No Land space in Santa Fe. It costs $15 per person for all ages to attend Hear It Is: A Creative Communication Workshop with Ariana Lombardi. This workshop is from 6pm to 9pm and is part of Ariana Lombardi’s I Know That I Am event series. The opening reception and performances are on November 4 from 6 to 9pm, and there are readings on November 11 at 7pm.
