Eat and Drink to your health at SALUD! de Mesilla

The Mesilla Valley has welcomed (with open arms I might add) a fresh, new eatery located next door to LuLu’s. Salud! de Mesilla opened their doors in the spring of 2016. Owners, Russell Hernandez and Christopher Schaljo, sat down with me to discuss their vast menu complete with options for many alternative diets.
Salud was actually a very well thought out name for this restaurant, according to Hernandez. This name comes from the feeling of being welcome and knowing all the other customers when you arrive, similar to the show “Cheers”. In addition, “Salud” in spanish, also means “to your health”, and that is exactly what they are trying to achieve here.
With alternative menu items such as a paleo wrap, pickled fennel, house-made mint vinaigrette, and gluten-free pancakes, everyone at your table is sure to be pleased. Russell and Chris really wanted to cater to all diets, even restrictive ones. They have been able to create a vast offering of gluten-free, vegetarian and paleo items.

Rainbow bread, a colorful, hearty loaf, is offered to every table upon being seated. The bread is complimented with various types of artisan butters, ranging from sweet to savory. Rainbow bread gives Salud their own signature twist on the typical chips and salsa given at most New Mexican restaurants. This fun creation can be traced back to their talented Pastry Chef, Milo Rubio, who has also imagined many of the decadent gluten-free dessert options. The most recent addition to the dessert menu is a Ferrero Rocher layered cake.
Another popular menu item is the Pecan Smoked Salmon over broccolini and papas. This dish features pecans from Salopek Farms, and a sweet serrano pepper aioli.

This vast menu is sure to cater to every person in your dining party!

This is an amazing restaurant run by two guys who really do care about their “guests”. They make everyone feel welcome as if you were in their home. The attention to detail and the customers satisfaction is the priority here. Need gluten free.? They have it. Have special dietary needs? They will try to accommodate them. Have a picky friend? The menu will have something for every one. I have fiends who can only eat small meals due to barriatric surgery…the tapas on the menu are perfect. Did I mention the wine selection? They can accomidate every taste and pair with your meal. You would think this was would be expensive…but it is so reasonable you will look at your bill twice to make sure you are seeing it correctly. Great food, great service and reasonable prices..what more can you ask for? Btw I am not a relative, just a person who is happy that Las Cruces/Mesilla can offer a change from the regular fare offered here.
