El Patron Cafe – Fusion Cuisine in the heart of Las Cruces

From hearty towering nachos, to homemade pineapple upside-down cake, El Patron has many ways to satisfy your craving. El Patron Cafe and Catering opened its doors in 2010, located in Las Cruces. I recently sat down with one of the few official owners, Rosella Tirre, to discuss how her and her family has helped shape this up and coming eatery. “It all started in our kitchen when my cousin, Phillip, suggested that we start selling our food and open a restaurant; he really felt that others should be allowed to enjoy our home cooked dishes and now here we are…El Patron!” El Patron really is a family endeavor, with many extended family members having intimate involvement in the creation and running of the business. In recent years, Rosella has passed the torch to her son Patrick Tirre, who now designs the menu and weekly specials. In the six short years of being in business, they have been recognized by Thrillest magazine as top 21 best nachos in the country!

What sets El Patron apart from other small cafe’s in Las cruces, is the eclectic and ever-changing menu.  The menu offerings range from traditional Mexican food; such as huevos rancheros and tacos, to Pasta and stir-fry dishes. Not to mention the from-scratch dessert selection. These scrumptious dessert recipes have been handed down from Rosella’s ancestors, she feels that “the homemade recipies are very important to us since they have been with the family for 5 generations; there is just something about the homemade ingredients that makes the final product so delicious”.

The brisket items are what truly elevate the El Patron menu. Paul Tirre, takes special care during the cooking process by applying the perfect blend of seasoning which results in a mouth-watering product. Also, the “selection of the brisket slab is very important, as well as cooking for an appropriate amount of time and at the right temperature; it’s a long process, but well worth the wait!”
