7 Fun Events in August in New Mexico
Summer isn’t over yet, and there’s still a lot to do to make the most of yours in New Mexico! Last month, we told you about some of the fun and exciting events taking place in July in New Mexico. Today, we’re going to make sure that you’re prepared for August in New Mexico!
1 Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial in August in New Mexico
The Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial is an exciting event with parades, rodeos, bull riding, sports and athletic competitions, arts and crafts shows, dances, and children’s activities. With 30 tribes attending from Mexico and the US, it is an excellent way to learn about and teach your children about the culture of Native American tribes. The ceremonial includes various pageants, competitions, and events between August 4th and August 13th. Experience the 96th Annual Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial at Red Rock Park, just east of Gallup, New Mexico. 2 Lea County Fair in August in New Mexico
The Lea County Fair & PRCA Rodeo is a fun family event that takes place in Lovington, New Mexico. It goes from August 4th to August 12th. There will be a carnival, concerts, an Xtreme Bull Event, arts and crafts, livestock shows, and much more. They claim to have the best fair food around, but we’ll let you be the judge of that! Admission is free on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday!
3 Zuni Arts & Cultural Expo in August in New Mexico
If you love arts and crafts and culture, then you will not want to miss the Zuni Arts & Cultural Expo in Zuni, New Mexico. The event is on the weekend of August 12th and 13th. It will include a celebration of traditional dances, traditional foods, and the culture of the Zuni Pueblo.
4 Chama Days in August in New Mexico
Chama Days in the Village of Chama, New Mexico, is another exciting celebration. It includes an arts and crafts fair, a parade, a rodeo, and sports competitions. It starts on Wednesday August 9th, and continues with various scheduled events for adults and children until August 13th.
5 The Indian Market in August in New Mexico
Those who enjoy Native American culture and art are going to love The Indian Market in Santa Fe. This is the biggest Native American market in the whole US, with thousands of artisans in booths displaying and selling their jewelry, blankets, rugs, sculptures, and more! You’ll also get to experience the demonstrations of tribal crafts and tribal dancing. Throughout the Santa Fe Plaza, de Vargas Mall, and the surrounding streets, there will be plenty of excitement and activity on August 19th and 20th.
6 Music from Angel Fire in August in New Mexico
Music from Angel Fire is a summer celebration of music in Angel Fire, Taos, Raton, and Las Vegas, New Mexico. It takes place between August 18th and September 3rd. This is their 34th year holding this event with this year’s theme being ‘Around the World.’ There will be classical music and chamber music, performed by some of the world’s best musicians, including Imani Winds and The Brass Project.
7 Great American Duck Race in August in New Mexico
The Great American Duck Race takes place in Deming, New Mexico from August 24th to August 27th. It is much more than a duck race, however. It includes a parade, ballooning, dances, outhouse racing, and a tortilla toss on the courthouse lawn or Duck Downs at McKinley Duck Downs, Courthouse Park.
