Visit the Newly-Renovated El Vado Motel
Route 66 is a historic centerpiece of America, but unfortunately one that’s become dilapidated since its glory days. Venture onto the Motheroad and wind your way to Albuquerque, where you’ll find a motel with a treasured history and a new touch of modern. El Vado Motel exudes a timeless charm, newly reopened after an $18 million dollar renovation.
Since its opening in 1937, this motel has been the backdrop for family trips, explorations, and a central place of gathering. It was one of the first motels dotting the road to the west. Even as times have changed, this motel has remained a jumping off point for creating lasting memories with loved ones.
Situated on Central across from the Aquarium, the motel sat vacant for many years. The city, however, saved the pre-World War II motel from destruction after its closing in 2005. El Vado now welcomes guests with a tap room, featuring some of Albuquerque’s best local brews. Rooms are designed in the modern southwest style we have all come to know and love, but with an ode to the motel’s historic roots.

Guests will find themselves with plenty of food and drink options, with five restaurant options to choose from, as well as an artisan coffee shop, Zendo. The on-site spa and wellness center, Arogya, invites guests to relax and unwind with its unique Ayurveda practices. If shopping is more your style, you’ll find local and authentic Route 66 wares at the many El Vado shops advertised on the property.
Whether you’re a New Mexican native or just passing through, El Vado is sure to be a highlight of your travels. Want to see more? Step inside the renovation below!
